Workers compensation is a form of income protection insurance that covers you during working hours, covering claims for accidents and illnesses specifically caused by or at the workplace. What happens to you outside of working hours, including (in some states) what happens while commuting to and from work is not covered by worker's compensation. For this reason, it is probably a good idea to consider at least a basic income protection policy to cover you for non-work related illnesses and accidents.
